MSc (Medical Administration)
Mid Career Course
It is a 12 weeks medical administration course for officers with 12 years of service and is aimed at training the officers for command and staff appointments at mid-level. This course is run thrice a year with an average intake of 30 students per course.
Ladies Integrated Course
This course is designed for newly inducted lady medical officers in which they are given basic military training.
Senior Army Dental Corps Officers Course
This course is run parallel with the MSc course with a special module for the dental corps officers
Masters in Public Health
It is a 2 years programme through University of Health Sciences for doctors and nurses. The intensive curriculum emphasizes on following aspects
(1) Basic Public Health Sciences
(2) Essential Managerial and Analytical skills including Project Planning and Evaluation
(3) Epidemiological Investigations
(4) Health Systems Analysis and Research
(5) Reproductive and Child Health
(6) Environmental and Occupational Health
(7) Disease Control
(8) Effective Communication and Leadership
Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme
It is Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, USA, certified programme, run in collaboration with National Institute of Health, Islamabad and is aimed to strengthen national capacity in disease surveillance and outbreak response. The course spans two years and its scope includes: –
(1) Public health work especially Field Epidemiology
(2) Operational research
(3) Programme evaluation
(4) Communication skills & other public health competencies
(5) Use of disease data & investigation in case of an outbreak / case investigation
Preventive Health Assistant (PHA).
Three, tiered courses for paramedics are conducted to train them to be qualified Public Health Assistants.
(1) Basic PHA Course
It is an entry-level course and spans twenty weeks. Paramedics are given basic training in Public Health Services, Hygiene and Sanitation, Communicable Diseases and their control, Waste Disposal, Community Health Nursing and Medical Epidemiology.
(2) Mid-Level PHA Course
This course is offered to Basic PHA Course qualified personnel and spans 42 weeks. Training includes academic as well as field / practical work.
(3) Advance-Level PHA Course
This course also spans 42 weeks and paramedics who have qualified Mid-Level PHA Course are selected. At the end of the successful qualification of the course, the individuals are certified as Preventive Health Assistants.
Minimum Initial Services Package for Reproductive Health (MISP) in Crisis Situation Training
This short duration course is run in collaboration with Family Planning Association of Pakistan and Health Services Academy, Islamabad. It is aimed to train physicians, nurses and public health specialists for the following in emergency / crisis situations:
(1) Reduce and prevent maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity
(2) Manage consequence of sexual violence
(3) Comprehensive reproductive health services
The institute is recognized for PhD in Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacology and various disciplines of Pathology.
M. Phil from Quaid-e-Azam University and University of Health Sciences is conducted at AFPGMI in Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacology and Pathology.
Training for Fellowship and Membership of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan is conducted at the institute in 41 disciplines, which include basic specialties and sub-specialties including Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Anesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Urology, etc.
Diploma in Cardiology
A two-years Diploma in Cardiology is conducted at Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology under the auspices of this institute through University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
Military Trauma Life Support
A regular one-week course for Military Trauma Life Support is conducted at AFPGMI for doctors, nurses and paramedics.
Sports Medicine Course
This is a specialized course for Sports Medicine conducted in collaboration with Army Sports Directorate.
AFPGMI is also responsible for a structured House Job programme for newly graduated medical officers. It is carried out at 27 military hospitals of the army spread all over the country.
4 years bachelors program is conducted through University of Health Sciences for Cardiac Perfusion and Medical Laboratory Technology.
Since 2011, all nurses inducted in the Armed Forces Nursing Services are required to qualify four-years bachelors degree through Nursing Examination Board, Punjab, followed by one-year house job. Both of these are conducted by AFPGMI at its various training sites.
Post Recruitment Nursing BSc
This a special 2 years degree program for all those nursing officers who have already been commissioned in the service to make them at par with their newly commissioned colleagues.
Basic Military Training
Basic Military Training for nursing officers is conducted for newly graduated / commissioned.
Courses of 10 months duration are conducted for training nursing officers in various specialties. Currently courses are being run for 11 specialties
(2) Intensive Care
(4) Operation Theatre
(7) Bone Marrow Transplant
(10) Burn Care
These short duration courses are not only run independently on regular basis, but also form part of curricula of all other courses conducted at the institute. These courses are designed as per modern teachings and revised regularly with changing trends.
